How to force quit an unresponsive app on your iphone ipod touch or ipad

If an app is frozen, or just acting strange, force quitting it can get it running smoothly again.

1. While in the app, press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until a red slider appears.

2. Then, simultaneously press and hold the Home button until the app quits.

You can also force close apps this way:

1. Double tap the home button. A menu of recently used apps will appear. Find the unresponsive app and hold your finger on the icon until it shakes and a red minus sign appears.

2. Tap the red minus sign to force quit the app. Then tap the home button twice to return to home screen.

If force quitting doesn’t fix the problem:

1. Try rebooting the device by holding the sleep/wake button and home button down at the same time, then slide to power off when prompted.
2. Check for app updates: App Store > Updates
3. Hold finger over app icon until it jiggles and a black x appears in corner. Tap black x to delete app. Then do a fresh install from the market.
